Clallam County COVID Data
The North Olympic area was minimally impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic for well over a year. But, there have been two large waves: one peaking at the end of August 2021, and the other peaking in the first week of 2022.
The links that follow can be used to study current & past COVID data, and enable an assessment of the current COVID situation.
website LOCAL – Clallam County Coronavirus Information: Data is updated Monday through Friday. This is essentially a ‘snapshot’ report of key metrics, per the latest report. To compare with earlier dates, or to visualize trends, use the data at the State website.
website STATE – DoH’s COVID-19 Data Dashboard: Lots of data, so give it a few seconds to load. Scroll down and find a line of blue tabs at the top of the page; these tabs provide access to a wealth of information, showing state totals or broken down by county.
- ♦ the ‘Current Status’ tab shows a snapshot of key metrics, but also allows for a look at any county (or group of counties) in Washington.
- ♦ the ‘Epidemiologic Curves’ tab offers graphs for both case counts and case rates, as collected on a daily basis. Use the toggle (top-right) to choose counts or case-rates; then, use another toggle to choose either 7-day or 14-day case rates. Note that the graphs can be tailored to focus on data between any two data-dates.
- ♦ the ‘Cumulative Cases’ tab offers a simpler view, showing ongoing totals for key metrics.
- ♦ the ‘Demographics’ tab refines the data presentation, with different colors representing the different population age-groups. Data can also be broken down by age and ethnicity (see buttons, upper-left display).
NOTE: On smaller devices, it may be quicker to view current data by scrolling further down (below the graphs) and selecting from the ‘Summary Data Tables’.
website NATIONAL – CDC COVID Data Tracker, integrated County view: Good data source for viewing the national situation, or to compare counties and/or states.
- ♦ To study Clallam County, select the state and county from the drop-down menu bars. Then, go to the lower pair of menu-bars to select data type and map metric.
- ♦ It is very interesting, studying various counties, as well as comparing states; not just for counts and rates, but also for the specific timing of peaks, which are radically different for some areas of the nation. Clallam County has an unusual late-onset pattern, perhaps due to its relative remoteness.
